How do I clean VoidTools Search Everything?

Files

To clean your file system from files stored by VoidTools Search Everything and to gain free disk space, examine the following file system locations. First of all, open a command prompt window:

  • Hit the Windows key , usually located in the lower left of your keyboard between the Ctrl and Alt keys.
  • Windows XP/Vista/7: Click Run...
  • Type cmd
  • Hit Enter

Now list all the files stored by VoidTools Search Everything that can be cleaned:

  1. Type dir %APPDATA%\Everything\*.csv
  2. Type dir %APPDATA%\Everything\*.txt
  3. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Everything\*.csv
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Everything\*.csv
  4. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Everything\*.txt
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Everything\*.txt
  5. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  6. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Everything\*.txt where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  7. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  8. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Everything\*.csv where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.

Among the files listed in the previous steps, there can be two files which are essential to VoidTools Search Everything and must not be deleted. To identify them:

  1. Type dir %APPDATA%\Everything\Filters.csv
  2. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Everything\Filters.csv
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Everything\Filters.csv
  3. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  4. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Everything\Filters.csv where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.

Once you have identified the files stored by VoidTools Search Everything that you want to clean, delete them using the del command or Windows Explorer.
