To clean your file system from files stored by System Mechanic and to gain free disk space, examine the following file system locations. First of all, open a command prompt window:

  • Hit the Windows key , usually located in the lower left of your keyboard between the Ctrl and Alt keys.
  • Windows XP/Vista/7: Click Run...
  • Type cmd
  • Hit Enter

Now list all the files stored by System Mechanic that can be cleaned:

  5. Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\iolo\ACRSummaryFiles
    • Windows XP: Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\iolo\ACRSummaryFiles
  6. Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\iolo\logs
    • Windows XP: Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\iolo\logs
  7. Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\iolo\TempResources
    • Windows XP: Type dir %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\iolo\TempResources
  8. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\iolo\System Mechanic\*.txt
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\iolo\System Mechanic\*.txt
  9. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\iolo\System Mechanic\*.xml
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\iolo\System Mechanic\*.xml
  10. Type dir %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\LocalService\*
  11. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\iolo where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  12. Type dir %WinDir%\System32\config\iolo App.evt
  13. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  14. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\iolo\System Mechanic\*.txt where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  15. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  16. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\iolo\System Mechanic\*.xml where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  17. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\iolo\*.xml
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\ProgramData\iolo\*.xml
  18. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\iolo\*.txt

Once you have identified the files stored by System Mechanic that you want to clean, delete them using the del command or Windows Explorer.
