How do I clean Opera 9 (Classic)?

If you want to clean Opera 9 (Classic) manually, you can follow the steps outlined below. There are six locations in the file system where Opera 9 (Classic) stores data that can be cleaned.

Files

To clean your file system from files stored by Opera 9 (Classic) and to gain free disk space, examine the following file system locations. First of all, open a command prompt window:

• Hit the Windows key , usually located in the lower left of your keyboard between the Ctrl and Alt keys.
• Windows XP/Vista/7: Click Run...
• Type cmd
• Hit Enter

Now list all the files stored by Opera 9 (Classic) that can be cleaned:

1. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Opera 9\profile\cookies4.dat
   • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera 9\profile\cookies4.dat
2. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Opera 9\profile\vlink4.dat
   • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera 9\profile\vlink4.dat
3. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Opera 9\profile\global.dat
   • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera 9\profile\global.dat
4. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Opera 9\profile\cache4\*
   • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera 9\profile\cache4\*
5. Type dir %ProgramFiles%\Opera 9\profile\cacheOp\*
   • On 64-Bit also: Type dir %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera 9\profile\cacheOp\*
6. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
   • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
7. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
   Type dir {folder}\Opera 9\profile\cookies4.dat where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
8. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
   • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
9. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
   Type dir {folder}\Opera 9\profile\vlink4.dat where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
10. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
11. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Opera 9\profile\global.dat where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
12. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
13. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Opera 9\profile\cache4\* where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
14. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
15. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir {folder}\Opera 9\profile\cacheOp\* where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.

Once you have identified the files stored by Opera 9 (Classic) that you want to clean, delete them using the del command or Windows Explorer.
