How do I clean K-Lite Codec Pack?

Registry

To clean the registry from data stored by K-Lite Codec Pack, you can use the Microsoft Registry Editor (regedit.exe) which is installed by default on all Windows operating systems. First of all, open regedit.exe by carrying out these steps:

  • Hit the Windows key , usually located in the lower left of your keyboard between the Ctrl and Alt keys.
  • Windows XP/Vista/7: Click Run...
  • Type regedit.exe
  • Hit Enter

Now use regedit.exe to delete the registry keys:

    • Expand HKEY_USERS from the root of the tree in the left pane.

    • Expand Software.
    • Expand Gabest.
    • Expand vsfilter.
    • Click DefTextPathes.
    • Right-click Path0 in the right pane.
    • Choose Delete from the context menu.
    • Click Yes.
    • Expand HKEY_USERS from the root of the tree in the left pane.
    • Expand S-1-5-21-1409082233-152049171-725345543-500.
    • Expand Software.
    • Expand Gabest.
    • Expand vsfilter.
    • Click DefTextPathes.
    • Right-click Path1 in the right pane.
    • Choose Delete from the context menu.
    • Click Yes.
    • Expand HKEY_USERS from the root of the tree in the left pane.
    • Expand S-1-5-21-1409082233-152049171-725345543-500.
    • Expand Software.
    • Expand Gabest.
    • Expand vsfilter.
    • Click DefTextPathes.
    • Right-click Path2 in the right pane.
    • Choose Delete from the context menu.
    • Click Yes.

Files

To clean your file system from files stored by K-Lite Codec Pack and to gain free disk space, examine the following file system locations. First of all, open a command prompt window:

  • Hit the Windows key , usually located in the lower left of your keyboard between the Ctrl and Alt keys.
  • Windows XP/Vista/7: Click Run...
  • Type cmd
  • Hit Enter

Now list all the files stored by K-Lite Codec Pack that can be cleaned:

  1. Type dir /s %ProgramFiles%\K-Lite\*.log
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir /s %ProgramFiles(x86)%\K-Lite\*.log
  2. Type dir /s %ProgramFiles%\K-Lite\*.txt
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir /s %ProgramFiles(x86)%\K-Lite\*.txt
  3. Type dir /s %ProgramFiles%\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.log
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir /s %ProgramFiles(x86)%\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.log
  4. Type dir /s %ProgramFiles%\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.txt
    • On 64-Bit also: Type dir /s %ProgramFiles(x86)%\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.txt
  5. Type dir %SystemDrive%\*klcp_itp_*.tmp
  6. Type dir %SystemDrive%\*klcp_iph_*.tmp
  7. Type dir %SystemDrive%
  8. Type dir %UserProfile%\Desktop\klcp_codec_log.txt
  9. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  10. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir /s {folder}\K-Lite\*.log where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  11. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  12. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir /s {folder}\K-Lite\*.txt where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  13. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  14. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir /s {folder}\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.log where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.
  15. Type dir %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files*
    • Windows XP: Type dir %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VirtualStore\Program Files*
  16. For all the folders that were listed in the previous step:
    Type dir /s {folder}\K-Lite Codec Pack\*.txt where {folder} is one of the folders listed in the previous step.

Once you have identified the files stored by K-Lite Codec Pack that you want to clean, delete them using the del command or Windows Explorer.
